Board Of Education

West Hartford has an elected seven-member Board of Education which is required by State Statute and Town Charter to oversee public education.

      A.  Nomination, Appointment and Swearing in of New
           Board Member

           Recommendation:  THAT the Board of Education
           appoint Ms. Ellen Brassil as a member of the West
           Hartford Board of Education to fill the position
           vacated by Ms. Diane Mudge for the period of
           September 20, 2011 through the remainder of
           Ms. Mudge’s term in November 2011 and THAT
           Ms. Essie Labrot, Town Clerk (or designee) swear
           in Ms. Ellen Brassil as a new Board member.

      B.  Motion by Lib Brassil Spinella, Bruce Putterman and
           Terry Schmitt to Accept the Revised Policy 6235 
           - First Reading

           Recommendation:  THAT the Board of Education
           accept as a First Reading the following policy which
           was revised by the Board Policy Subcommittee:

           6235  Controversial Issues

      C.  Motion by Lib Brassil Spinella, Bruce Putterman and 
           Terry Schmitt to Approve the Reviewed Policy 6241

           Recommendation:  THAT the Board of Education
           approve the following policy that was reviewed by 
           the Board Policy Subcommittee:

           6241 Fraternities, Sororities and Other Secret Societies
V.  Staff Communications and Reports

     A.  Superintendent's Report

 Staff Reports and Board Discussions
          1.  Test Score Results and Analysis of Connecticut 
               Mastery Test (CMT) and Connecticut Academic 
               Performance Test (CAPT)

               Background:  Dr. Eileen Howley and Mr. Chip Ward
               will report

            1.  Approval of the Financial Statement for the period
                 ending June 30, 2011

                 Recommendation:  THAT the Board of Education 
                 approve the Financial Statement for the period

                 Recommendation:  THAT the Board of Education 
                 approve the minutes of the regular Board meeting of
